Thesis directions

1. GTA can provide people with an alternative life while they are playing

Thats not exactly whatI am trying to say, but I want to focus on how these games can let people live out a life of action and danger that they can not live in real life. For example, if a kid is always getting harrased in real life, he can go play a video game and be the big man in the game. The game provides a portal to escape real life.

2. While playing GTA, a player can choose how to conduct his life.

By this I mean that players are not always forced to kill and rob people in the game. They can live there life in many different ways. I believe the game encourages the player to conduct a violent life style, but does not force it.

3. GTA is a game that relies on the choices a player makes and the consequences they entail.

Every action in GTA has a reaction. Whether a descion you make changes the story line, or gets you arrested, all descisions you make in the game change something. Most of these changes are small, but some can effect you very much.

Online video game articles.

Article Number 1:
http://www.sciencenewsforkids.org/articles/20040121/Feature1.asp
Article Number 2:
http://www.addadhdblog.com/category/adhd-video-games

In the first article I read, the writer explains what video games can teach us. The article comments on how every time there is an act of teenage violence, video games take a lot of the heat. I think it makes no sense to blame a video game when the real focus should be on the person who actually commits the crime. Games do not force a person to go out and kill other people. The person has to make that decision on his or her own. The article uses the example that blaming video games is like “blaming food because we have obese people.” The general public, as well as the media outlets, should not be blaming video games.

The second article I read was on the treatment of ADHD using video games. A study has shown that casually playing video games can improve self esteem, increase memory, and increase concentration. Parents of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder are actually turning to games to help with their problem. I believe that games really could have a positive effect in helping with ADHD kids. Most games take 50-60 hours to complete, and the players must stay focused to be successful. Also, if a child does not feel equlvaent because of ADHD, doing well in video games could do wonders for his or her self esteem.
